Specialist fire engineering support was provided across residential, healthcare and high-rise buildings, combining fire strategy, technical design review and building-safety assessment.
Scope included means of escape, compartmentation, fire detection and alarm systems, smoke control, fire-stopping, external fire spread and fire service access in support of design development and compliance.
Delivery also included FRA, FRAEW, PAS 9980 and EWS1-related technical input, helping clients define practical remedial works and proportionate fire-safety solutions through to project implementation.
An IETF-funded engineering feasibility study assessed recovery of rotary-kiln waste heat using Organic Rankine Cycle technology to generate on-site electricity from otherwise rejected thermal energy.
The work analysed operating data, reviewed emissions and heat-recovery opportunities, coordinated supplier input and developed technically viable integration options for implementation.
The study supported lower-carbon industrial energy use and investment decision-making through practical engineering, optioneering and commercial review.
Ageing industrial and property assets required structured asbestos investigation, risk assessment and remediation planning before refurbishment, demolition or redevelopment could proceed.
Virium coordinated refurbishment and demolition surveys for industrial buildings, identifying asbestos-containing roofing, wall and ceiling panels and associated materials, while wider housing portfolio work covered surveying, sampling, air testing and asbestos consultancy.
The engineering approach integrated specialist removal, demolition, programme and commercial planning, including identification of more than £73,000 in guideline Land Remediation tax relief for the asbestos removal and demolition stage.
